Get Involved with Vista/AmeriCorps Positions on the Peninsula

     Position #1- Volunteer Coordinator- Boys & Girls Club of the Long Beach Peninsula.  The Volunteer Coordinator will provide support for a variety of positive youth and family development projects in South Pacific County. Member will serve at the Boys and Girls Club to increase the number of volunteers in our organization through community outreach. The Volunteer Coordinator will help build capacity, strengthen current systems, and develop new programs to fill gaps in current services. Specifically, member will increase the number of volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club(s) and develop systems for improved fundraising. The Volunteer Coordinator will mobilize and train “champion volunteers” to train future volunteers. Member will improve current data systems, raise awareness, and developed systems to improve future fundraising.      Position #2- Successful Students,  Big Brothers Big Sisters of SW Washington (North Pacific County Schools)The AmeriCorps member will implement the Big Brothers Big Sisters School-Based One-to One Mentoring Program, serving children ages 5 to 13,  in the South Bend and Raymond School Districts in North Pacific County. The goal of Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Programs is to improve the lives of the children and help them develop to their fullest potential.  They will also collaborate with community partners to support youth and parent enrichment opportunities in North Pacific County. The AmeriCorps member, in partnership with the South Bend School District, will coordinate a tutoring program, monthly Family Game Nights, become a facilitator for the Adventure Day low rope course program, provide support the Teen Advocacy Coalition and their activities, and coordinate the Strengthening Families Parent Enrichment Program.       Position #3-  Peninsula Poverty Response (PPR) Project Coordinator (Long Beach Peninsula Community)-  The VISTA member serving on Peninsula Poverty Response will participate in planning and implementing Project Homeless Connect and the Emergency/Transitional Housing Project, recruit and mobilize individual and agency volunteers, and participate in grant writing and local fundraising activities aimed to make these projects sustainable. In addition, the VISTA member will participate in Peninsula Poverty Response team meetings in which planning and networking occurs as well as assist with community panel discussions with key Peninsula programs. On each of these projects the VISTA member will be asked to participate in a team in order to build capacity to ensure these projects continue after the VISTA member’s year of service is completed.     Position #4- Boys & Girls Club/Readiness to Learn (Ocean Beach School District) The Readiness to Learn Systems Specialist (RTL-SS) will provide support for a variety of positive youth and family development projects in Pacific County. Member will serve at the Boys and Girls Club and with community coalitions to increase the number of volunteers in our organizations. This includes presentations to school and community groups, one on one outreach, and utilizing local media to convey our need. The RTL-SS will help build capacity, strengthen current systems, and develop new programs to fill gaps in current services. Specifically, member will increase the number of volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club(s), support Project Learn (tutoring youth), and lead Girls Circle/Boys Council programs. The RTL-SS will mobilize and train volunteers, including training and mentoring Junior Staff (youth volunteers). Member will write and submit news updates and articles to the local paper on a monthly basis, coordinate family nights, and support community collation activities. Ilwaco All-Comers Track Meets

On May 15th at 1:30pm the Long Beach Police Department will be dedicating the new permanent Rx dropbox in their lobby. The Rx dropbox is the best method to get rid of unwanted or no longer needed medications in a safe and responsible way. Stop by the department to check it out!

Help give kids the tools for school

Coastal Community Action of Pacific/Grays Harbor County would appreciate the donation of ink cartridges, toner, and cell phones for recycle.   This donation will benefit the S.N.A.P Program ( Student Needs Assistance Program) for their school supply distribution for over 400 school children in North and South Pacific County.  Each August much needed school supplies are distributed to school age children in need thanks to the S.N.A.P Program.    You may contact the Coastal Community Action office at 360-942-5739 or please feel free to leave your donated cartridges, toner or cell phones at the WSU Extension office in the Pacific County Annex Building.

Join us for the WellSpring Community Carnival April 11, 5-7 pm at Hilltop!

Join us for a fun-filled evening April 11 at the Ilwaco Middle High School! We will be showcasing local community groups and agencies and providing lots of family fun. There will be a dance for 5th-7th graders at the Boys and Girls Club. Come for the fun, food, and games!
